
Western University International Students Scholarships
The University of Western Ontario (UWO), popularly known as Western University, is situated in Ontario, Canada. The research-intensive institution had the Thames River flowing through the eastern side. Instituted in 1878, school alumni include Nobel Laureates, business leaders and government officials.
Every academic year, hundreds of scholars from around the world attend Western University to pursue their desired degree program. With 400 varieties of majors and minors in 12 different faculties and over 90 undergraduate degree programs, any student can avail in their ideal course of study under the university. Undergraduate scholarship at Western University
- The Western Scholarship of Excellence
- Eligibility: International students who have maintained a 90% to 94.9% overall average through their senior year in high school.
- Scholarship Value: Up to CAD8,000, and an additionalCAD2,000 award for travel expenses.

March 1st is the due deadline for early consideration. High school applicants who have good academic performance during their high school and desire to study under Western University are eligible for this scholarship offer. Students must be applying to the school intending to be full-time enrollee. Applying or switching into a part-time course program or enrollment will negate the student’s eligibility. If awarded, the scholarship award will be applied to the receiving scholar fee account before the time 1st installment is due.
- Western International Continuing Scholarship Award
- Eligibility: Applicants must be admitted under a full-time enrollment and course load at Western University, and also have exhibited outstanding academic achievement during their secondary school years.
- Scholarship Value: Up to CAD20,000, to be disbursed in CAD5,000 each academic year for four years.

The Western International Continuing Scholarship award was created to aid exemplary international scholar’s in attending Western University. Aside the outstanding academic history, applicants must also have previously displayed qualities of good leadership, and have contributed in community service. To retain this scholarship award, receiving students must maintain an academic average of 80% or above yearly.
- The Western Scholarship of Distinction
- Eligibility: Only international student who has earned a minimum final of 92% to 100% admission average.

This scholarship award is received by only first-year students who are entering Western University under a bachelor’s degree. Applicants must also be enrolled under a full-time program. Those who have already received a National Scholarship or Schulich Leader Scholarship award are not eligible for this scholarship award.
It is the obligation applicant to confirm whether their high school has submitted all final transcripts including reference letters to the Admissions Office. Also note that admission averages are not rounded to the nearest whole percentage for consideration of this scholarship award.
International undergraduate students with the desire to study in Western University will find numerus options of scholarships available to fund their studies. Postgraduate scholarship at Western University
- Ontario Graduate Scholarship and QEII Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology
- Eligibility: International postgraduate students who applied for and is accepted under a postgraduate program in Western University.
- Scholarship Value: Up to CAD15,000 for one academic year.

In order for interested student to qualify for this Western University scholarship award, the scholar must have achieved an academic average of at least 80% in a Science or Technology related course program. The application is divided into five different sections, which must be duly completed in order for the scholar’s application to be considered for the offer. One of the included sections is a proposal outlining the aspiring students proposed research trajectory. Also potential candidates are required to also obtain references from two Professors in support of their application for the scholarship award.
- Ontario Trillium Scholarship award
- Eligibility: Ph.D. student with exceptional potential and research experience, and also demonstrating outstanding academic performance.
- Scholarship Value: Up to CAD40,000 per annum for up to 4 years.

To receive the Ontario Trillium Scholarship award, interested doctoral candidates must first be nominated by the Graduate Chair at Western University. A completed file will have a letter of nomination no more than two pages, outlining the student’s research prowess, academic excellence, interpersonal qualities, and reputation within their respective college and degree program. And also, an admission application with references, transcripts and a CV must be attached in the final submission.
By August 31st nominations must be submitted for consideration. Those applying for the Ontario Trillium Scholarship award must not have received a scholarship award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) or the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
- Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
- Eligibility: Students in the process of obtaining their first doctoral degree, and that have completed no more than 20 months of full-time matriculation in their chosen Doctoral degree program.
- Scholarship Value: Up to CAD50,000 per annum for 3 academic years of doctoral program.

This award is offered by the Canadian government, the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship award, is among the scholarship available at the Western University. The aim for the scholarship is to attract competent, exemplary talent from around the globe. The basis for considering applicants by the scholarship board are the student’s Leadership skill, academic excellence and research potential. Four assessments are required as well: 2 from academic referees, and the other 2 from leadership referees.
Students must have emerged directly from a bachelor’s degree to a Ph.D., without enrolling under a master’s degree program, or have passed from a master’s program into a doctoral degree program, without obtaining a master’s degree.
As part of their application, candidates must detail out identifying factors such as race, religion, gender, age, ethnicity and mental or any physical disability affect the results of research.
Applicants will be required to consider the SGBA+ (Sex and Gender-based Analysis Plus) principles when making their research proposal.
